i don't know if i've mentioned that i have two dogs, aiko and neeka. there's a post i put up with aiko's picture in it. should have been from a few months ago. anyway, she's a cute dog... usually very calm, always with the waggy tail when she sees you and she does this weird but cute thing where she sits and then puts up her right paw. i don't know why she does it, but it's cute. the only thing about her that we try to fix is her crazy barking at anything that moves. it's like that alarm clock that you keep snoozing.
anyway, earlier during the week, my dad and jake loaded the dogs into the back of the truck so they could go for a walk at the marina. aiko did not make it. apparently, she saw another dog and jumped out of the truck bed. thank goodness she had a leash otherwise, she could have easily been... ugh... i don't even want to say that word because it gives me bad visuals... but... roadkill. you've seen those, and sometimes they're DOGS! it's so sad. but back to aiko. they pulled over and put the girl inside the car. she's ok, but suffered from knicks and scrapes on her rear paws. she was really shaken up and was limping a bit. i went in the garage to check up on her and it was clear that she was not having the best doggy day of her life. no chasing squirrels in the backyard that day. she didn't even put her head up when i called her. poor thing... but she's better now and back to her old barky self.
the incident reminded me of when we lost nero. we lost a member of our household and it was horrible. it's funny how attached we can get to our pets to the point where they have a place in our hearts the way people do...even if they poop on the carpet, chew up the right foot sneaker and go through the hamper and use the underwear as a chew toy. being cute and furry cancels it all out, those lucky four-legged creatures.
Cool article - thanks!
